Cemetery Walking Tour
October 28, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Stroll through history at Willow Wild Cemetery this October with the Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site. On Saturday, October 28th, the Sam Rayburn House will host its 14th annual Cemetery Walking Tour.
Willow Wild Cemetery’s most famous resident may be Sam Rayburn, but there are many prominent Bonhamites interred there. This year’s tour will feature notable medical professionals. From Mr. Sam’s personal physician, Dr. Joe Risser, to Dr. Thomas Spies, a world-renowned physician who developed cures for Pellagra, sprue, and pernicious anemia, come learn about the life changing contributions Bonham residents have made to the world of healthcare.
The free guided tour will begin at Sam Rayburn’s grave near the flagpoles at 10:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. For those that prefer to tour at their own pace, Sam Rayburn House staff will be on site from 10 a.m. to noon to provide self-guided pamphlets and directions to the featured graves on the tour.
